Mariah Carey Achieves Six New RIAA Certifications, Including 30th Anniversary Milestones Of Music Box

Mariah Carey continues to make her mark on music history, as she secures six new single certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Two of these certifications align with the 30th anniversary of her third album, “Music Box,” which was released on August 31.

One of Carey’s iconic hits, “Hero,” the album’s second single, has been certified 3x multi-platinum, signifying sales of over three million equivalent units. “Hero” spent an impressive four weeks at the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, beginning on December 25, 1993. The song also earned Mariah Carey a Best Female Pop Vocal Performance nomination in 1995, solidifying its status as a timeless classic.

Another track from “Music Box,” titled “Anytime You Need a Friend,” has achieved gold certification, denoting sales of 500,000 equivalent units. This song showcases Carey’s vocal prowess and the enduring appeal of her music.

Two of Carey’s chart-topping hits have also seen changes in their certification levels. “Fantasy” and “One Sweet Day” featuring Boyz II Men, both from her 1995 album “Daydream,” have achieved remarkable milestones. “Fantasy” is now certified 6x multi-platinum, while “One Sweet Day” has reached 4x multi-platinum status. “One Sweet Day” holds a special place in music history, as it spent a record-breaking 16 weeks at the top of the Hot 100 chart, making it the longest-running single for 23 years.

In addition to these achievements, Carey’s songs “Love Takes Time” and “Thank God I Found You” have received platinum certifications. “Love Takes Time” is featured on her self-titled 1990 album, while “Thank God I Found You,” a collaboration with Joe and 98 Degrees, is part of her 1999 album “Rainbow.”

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of “Music Box,” Mariah Carey is launching a special campaign beginning on September 8. Various editions of the album will be made available, including 4LP, 3CD, and cassette versions of the original album. An expanded digital version will also feature new and unreleased tracks. Carey expressed her gratitude to her fans, known as the “lambily,” for their unwavering support throughout her career, and she looks forward to celebrating this milestone with them.
