Splash FM orders ban on Naira Marley songs across all stations

The management of Splash FM, one of Nigeria’s prominent radio station chains, has decided to ban the broadcasting of songs by the popular artist Naira Marley across all its stations. This decision comes in the wake of the mysterious death of musician Mohbad and the subsequent police investigation. While no direct evidence links Naira Marley to Mohbad’s demise, the controversy surrounding their relationship has raised many questions.

Mohbad, whose real name was Promise Aloba, was a former signee of Marlian Records, a record label associated with Naira Marley. However, their once-promising partnership soured, leading to a public falling out. Tragically, Mohbad’s life was cut short in circumstances that have raised suspicions and concerns.

In the aftermath of Mohbad’s passing, disturbing footage surfaced, revealing the alleged abuse and mistreatment he endured at the hands of Naira Marley and his associates. Notably, Sammy Larry, purportedly a gang leader linked to Naira Marley, was involved in disrupting one of Mohbad’s music video shoots. These incidents have left the public clamoring for a thorough investigation into the musician’s untimely death.

As the police officially initiated inquiries into Mohbad’s death, Splash FM made a significant decision. In an internal memo sent to staff members, the station’s management explained that, due to the sensitivity of the situation and ongoing investigations, Naira Marley’s songs would no longer be broadcast on their stations. The ban, labeled as “Not to be Broadcast (NTBB),” was enacted immediately.
